michaeltunnell added a comment to T9965: Consider installing exfat-fuse by default.

If not, then another option could be to make the warning message in Dolphin not so absurdly technical and instead explain what packages need to be installed for it to work.

That's something we should do anyway. Can you file a bug on bugs.kde.org and preferably attach a screenshot depicting the current error message? I'm semi-familiar with the code in question and may be able to offer up a quick fix.

michaeltunnell added a comment to T9965: Consider installing exfat-fuse by default.

Due to Microsoft joining the OIN it might be possible for exfat support to be included in a future release. Once Canonical Legal addresses this then I think it would be good to add.

I think uploading them to peertube sounds like a good idea. How would the Akademy Team do this when they are ready? I assume having them already there for the announcement would be good.

michaeltunnell added a comment to T8450: Reconsider hybrid dark/light theming for 18.10.

@raddison Breeze and Breeze Dark both have glaring issues making the default of either as a negative. The Hybrid approach addresses the issues of both sides without suffering from the faults of either, that makes the Hybrid design the better option to be default.

michaeltunnell added a comment to T8187: Single click vs double-click.

I think the experiment of single-click by default has had enough time that if it were to have changed the expectations of users then it would have already done it.

michaeltunnell added a comment to T8187: Single click vs double-click.

Here are some references throughout the years of people complaining about the default not being double-click. This is not an exhaustive list but the intent here is to show how often it comes up and how long it has been a paper cut for so many.

Every time we talk about changing some default I keep coming back to you can please everyone so why not just ask on their first login.. Yes our Look and Feel should be updated and easier to understand and maybe that is part of the solution for some of these default discussion we keep having.

michaeltunnell added a comment to T8187: Single click vs double-click.

@ngraham laptop trackpads would be fine if tap-to-click was enabled by default. That's what most people expect anyway.
Mobile is important and Plasma Mobile should totally have single-click but I agree with @abetts that it would be ideal if it adjusted based on device.
I hadn't thought of the dialog functionality being opposite of the default thus being unintuitive. Good point.

michaeltunnell added a comment to T7928: Change default click settings to Double-Click.

@raddison this change is not in relation to what is or is not better in overall usage, instead this relates to what is expected. If a user wants to have single-click activation then that is great and they can go into the settings and change it. The issue is a vast majority of people expect it to be double-click and that is why it should be default. It should be default because making people deal with customizing on the first day is a bad idea for on-boarding of users.

Agreed in regards to the selection markers. There are times people have asked me what those even do so since they aren't very intuitive anyway it makes sense to disable them with double click

I agree with this task for the above reasons and to add onto the selecting issue. A ton of people are unaware of the Ctrl+click option for selecting so it just creates frustrations. This would be a good step to alleviate some new user frustration.

Even if it has a slightly different use case than the forum, they share the same issue: the number of people able to answer. This is not to say that it can't be done, but the I think that adding more services with the same amount of people looking at them (mailing lists, forums and IM(IRC/Matrix.Telegram)) may not scale properly.
