KDE e.V. annual report 2019
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We need to release an annual report about our activities in 2019.

It should give our supporters a good overview of what we have been doing and that we spend their money in a good way. It should also be a nice overview for the KDE community to celebrate a great year.

Previous reports can be found here: https://ev.kde.org/reports/

We want to create the report and be able to publish it much earlier than last year's.

Provisional deadline: By the end of April

The following TODO list will probably become more detailed as we progress into the task:

  • Contact working groups
  • Make a list of sprints
  • Make a list of 2019 events KDE attended
  • Akademy
  • FOSDEM
  • OpenExpo Europe
  • FOSS North
  • GitLab Commit Brooklyn and London
  • Lakademy (in Salvador, Bahia)
  • ...
  • Source material
  • Write original content
    • Welcome by @apol
    • Featured: KDE, Software Freedom and the KDE Free Qt Foundation by @paulb
  • Edit sourced content
  • Source graphics
  • Publish to site

From @bcooksley :

The Sysadmin component of the report is as follows:

Created/Reinstated 90 Developer accounts

Created 7 kdemail.net aliases
Disabled 1 kdemail.net aliases

Created 12 kde.org aliases
Disabled 1 kde.org aliases
Modified 8 kde.org aliases

Created 5 kde.org mailing-lists: kirigami cutehmi akademy-proposals cantor-bugs kde-kr
Disabled 5 kde.org mailing-lists: dot-editors kdepim-maintainers social-media rocs-devel krecipes-devel

Apart from the figures, @bcooksley . is there anything else you can tell us about what happened last year? Challenges, changes, landmarks... We know, for example, that you worked hard on the GitLab implementations, is there anything else we can say about your work in 2019?

@valorie and @tcanabrava : Can you put together a text for the 2019 yearly report, please?

paulb added a comment.Mar 3 2020, 11:46 AM

@hein: would it be possible to have a brief text with the 2019 highlights from the point of view of the FWG, please? We would also need the figures for 2018.

@colomar Are you still more or less in charge of the Advisory Board? If not, who is? Either way, I would need a text for the report.

paulb added a comment.Mar 3 2020, 11:53 AM

@neofytosk : How about we start to include a text from the KDE Free Qt Foundation in the reports? This could be the first one. It doesn't have to be long: a couple of paragraphs about what it does, whose on the board and the activities carried out during the year.

@neofytosk, @apol, @lydia, @adridg, @hein, what are you preferences regarding the topic for the "Featured Article"? For reference, last year we talked about KDE goals, and the year before about Plasma Mobile.

How does doing something about how KDE defends Free Software sound? We could use it to surreptitiously segue into talking about th KDE Free Qt Foundation and how it is beneficial for users, companies and institutions that rely on free and open frameworks for GUI development. Something subtle.

paulb added a comment.Mar 9 2020, 9:43 AM

@apol I'd need an introductory text for the report, when you can.

Sounds good to me.
Also we can include how necessary it is for society to have: working, available solutions that respect your privacy and can be tailored to your needs. Or some of it.

@apol I'd need an introductory text for the report, when you can.

Aye aye. :)

I took over nowadays in regard to the Advisory Board, but nothing to report for the last quarter of 2019. I'll ping Thomas to see if he has anything to report.

Sounds legit to me, I'll check with the Board and KFQF and get back to you.

I assume with Akademy the e.V. report is done and this task can be closed, right?

We still need to send it to the supporters and promote it. The board will handle that.

We talked about promoting it more widely with the general public with @neofytosk and we figured it would be best to do that right after Akademy.

paulb lowered the priority of this task from Normal to Low.
lydia added a comment.Sep 8 2020, 12:24 PM

Ok cool. In that case we should coordinate the timing. It's probably best if the supporters don't get it after the big public push.

The e.V. supporters have been informed and we can now share this publicly.

We can close this task after that.

Many thanks to everyone that worked on it!

Stats from social media are rather poor and according to stats.kde.org, the ev websites just got 50 more visitors today :( Any idea of how we could make this announcement more visible?

Don't worry about it. This was never going to be popular. Closing.
