Improve awareness of Planet's content policy

Description

Problem

KDE Planet has a set of guidelines well hidden under the "Add your Blog" link. As per one of them,

Blog posts about personal subjects are also encouraged since Planet KDE is a chance to learn more about the developers behind KDE.

So for example, blog posts on political topics are allowed. This may come (and comes) as a surprise to the readers who expect only KDE-related content on Planet KDE.

Proposed solution

  • Since "Add your Blog" already includes much more than what its name says, rename it to "About Planet", rearrange it to prioritize the description and guidelines, possibly also make it a proper page rather than a small overlay sheet.
  • Put a short paragraph about Planet in the content area before the posts to quickly explain where the visitors are; link to the "About ..." page.

See e.g. the "Welcome" block on https://phabricator.kde.org

May I suggest an alternative solution of differentiating between KDE topics and personal topics? Then we could add a filter, same as we do for languages.

(I'm sure this will obviously lead to a debate on what is personal and what is not, so I guess that would need some defining, but at least it would please both people who like to read these things on the planet and those who would rather not, as I guess this is one where it's hard to find a compromise)

I think it needs to be more subtle. At least two layers for personal, also. Controversy free and controversy included. As anything, these categories would also need definition. But for example, political topics would fall under controversy for me, especially things like Trump, Brexit, etc. I am happy to read a fellow KDE developer cycling through Europe. But I want to avoid a fellow KDE developer's post about e.g. Brexit.

This ticket is for making the existing rules more visible, not a filter mechanism, though.

Okies, I created https://phabricator.kde.org/T12322, if someone who knows phab better than I do could link these properly (if wanted), please do so, thanks

I quite like this solution, but I'm not sure there is an easy way to create this About page. I will put this is my todo list ;)

The new Planet website says "This is a feed aggregator that collects what the contributors to the KDE community are writing on their respective blogs". I hope this is enough. Otherwise please submit a merge request to https://invent.kde.org/websites/planet-kde-org
