Goal
For Plasma users
- Create excitement among Plasma users and people who have at least knowledge of the existence of Plasma with the aim of encouraging them to make it their main desktop.
- Provoke virality with the media we create and distribute in the hopes of reaching a wider audience than we can alone
For future Plasma users
Building on the inertia of the hype generated by the crowd mentioned above and reusing the materials created for that campaign, there is the opportunity deploy a campaign with a wider reach and push beyond
Rationale
Plasma is coming up for a big version shift version. It is a good reason to hype up this release and use that inertia (re-using materials and the buzz we generate) to push beyond our usual bubble of FLOSS users, in an attempt to make Plasma a little bit more mainstream.
Methods
- Create two campaign (or one with two levels) that will promote Plasma (6) to FLOSS enthusiasts and potential Windows refugees
- Develop media (images, slogans, short clips) we can memetise and include repeatedly in our posts prior the release
- Create promotional blogposts, articles, tutorials, videos and images for Plasma in general and Plasma 6 in particular
- Create an announcement and a press release for the release
- Continue the campaign for Plasma in general for potential Windows refugees after the release, taking advantage of the momentum and the media generated during the release
Brainstorm Ideas
- Use the \#\Plasma6 hastag in all posts where it is mentioned
- Yack on a short sentence like "\#\Plasma6 is coming!" to the end of most social media posts that talk about Plasma in general
- Create short teaser memetic gifs to post randomly and add the "\#\Plasma6 is coming!" to the text body as the date of the release get closer
