Update About pages on social media
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When updating the KDE e.V. address on our Facebook page, I noticed some parts of the About section were either outdated or completely empty.

I should clean up and update the information on all our social media About pages.

It might be good to check with the Board which information should be published, though (for example, which email address as the contact (if any), whether to add the phone number or not, etc).

What would be the next step to unblock this be?

Discuss centralized brand messaging with everyone and modify the existing "about" pages and descriptions accordingly. It's clear that me doing this in isolation won't do any good - input from other Promo members is crucial here.

Can we work on this as part of Akademy Promo BoF? https://phabricator.kde.org/T9066

There haven't been any other suggestions for the BoF; might as well work on this.

Yes, good idea. Included into the BoF's agenda

OK, let's wrap this up. I'll start with modifying the shorter descriptions first.

Problem:
KDE brand messaging on official social media profiles is somewhat disjointed.
Some profiles don't even have a description, or the descriptions do not fully reflect the core of the KDE brand.

Proposed solution:

  • Store current descriptions on a wiki page for archiving purposes; note down the date when they were changed
  • Vote on suggestions and replace current descriptions

Here are my suggestions for updates:

Twitter

Current:
Technology team creating free, open source and user-friendly software, offering an advanced graphical desktop and a wide variety of applications.

New:
A worldwide technology community 🌍 Creators of the Plasma desktop & a variety of Free and open source applications that let you control your digital life.

Facebook could do with current Akademy group photo on it
YouTube channel currently has an old FOSDEM photo on it, maybe something newer would be better

Agree with both! The only problem with the Akademy 2018 photo (IMHO, at least) is that it's a bit dark...maybe some editing would help.

Maybe one of the most recent Akademy photos? There are more than one

We've updated the descriptions on Twitter, Facebook, Mastodon, Google+ and YouTube.
Header images have also been updated on Facebook, Mastodon, and Google+.
