Description

We are migrating our individual supporting memberships from CiviCRM to Donorbox. For the page we need text and images that encourage people to become supporting members and explains the benefits of becoming a supporting member if KDE e.V.

Page: https://donorbox.org/kde-become-a-member

@aniqakhokhar Can you help with this?
We have some dry basics here: https://ev.kde.org/getinvolved/supporting-members/

Sure. Can you share more details so I can work on it?

Sure. Can we do it in a call right after or before the next Akademy call?

Sure. Let's talk after Akademy's call

Can we migrate people that are already supporting members automatically? Or do they have to migrate themselves?

They have to migrate themselves. But that's outside the scope of this ticket. What we need here is general content for the site that anyone will see encouraging them to sign up as a supporting member.

Text for the Camapign page

Some suggestions for the pictures. Maybe @paulb can suggest more pictures too.

I think "Why should you become a Supporting Member?" could maybe be rephrased as "What's the difference between becoming a supporting member and making an ordinary recurring donation?" as the text in that section is already the answer to that question, and it's a question that people will have.

Also I would remove the "* Participate in discussions, idea exchange sessions, and collaborate on innovative projects." bullet point as this isn't something that's gated on donating or being a supporting member.

I think the latter only becomes a problem if we change the heading per your suggestion. If we talk about why someone should become a supporting member then the point seems ok enough. We want to sell people on it after all ;-)

Another addition to the list of reasons for becoming a supporting member: "show your support for Free Software by becoming a part of the large supporter base of one of the biggest Free Software organizations" or something like it. (The more supporting members we have the more serious we are taken in policy discussions for example.)

Ok, let me play with the wording and propose something.

Tagging along, IDK who does this but I would suggest a couple of changes. One would be to use left justification for the text. It makes it look more readable. Also, I tried editing the content a bit and make it sound more sales-oriented. I guess if the purpose is to entice readers to join, we want to use that invitation tone. Here is a sample:

There are many ways to support KDE. Individuals contribute time and effort to writing the software, promoting the KDE desktop and otherwise supporting the community. Corporations contribute their employees time, infrastructure and support channels to the project. For individuals and corporations interested in contributing financially to the KDE project in order to enable developer meetings, community events and to support the KDE infrastructure, there is the option of entering into supporting membership of KDE e.V.
By becoming a supporting member of the KDE e.V. you contribute to the e.V. financially. Through your financial contribution the KDE e.V. sponsors events such as the KDE developer sprints, the yearly world meeting Akademy, QA meetings, scientific research and trade fairs attendance. KDE e.V. also supports the KDE infrastructure and ensures that the project runs smoothly on that infrastructure. By supporting the e.V. you support the KDE project.
As an association, the KDE e.V. has ordinary members from the community of KDE developers, translators, users and contributors. The supporting members play a special role in enabling the association to meet its financial goals as a non-profit organization supporting the KDE project.

You're welcome to use it, not use it, but I take Nate's point that it needs to have a different tone.

All right, how about this?

Your support is vital to the success of KDE. As an individual, you can contribute by writing software, promoting KDE's Plasma desktop and many applications, supporting the community--and by becoming a Supporting Member of KDE e.V. through regular financial contributions.

**Why support KDE e.V. financially**

The financial contributions of Supporting Members directly enhance the growth and sustainability of KDE among topics as diverse as:

* The development of KDE software
* Support for community initiatives
* Events such as the KDE developer sprints; Akademy, KDE's annual global meeting; QA meetings; scientific research; and KDE's participation in trade shows and events
* KDE's infrastructure, enabling collaboration and innovation within the community

**Why becoming a Supporting Member of KDE e.V. is the best way to do it**

As a Supporting Member of KDE e.V., you'll play a vital role in the success of the KDE project! Not only will your membership provide KDE e.V. with predictable financial support, but it will by publicly show your support for one of the oldest and most important free software communities.

And as a Supporting Member, you'll get exclusive access to exciting KDE news, updates, and announcements, and KDE e.V. general meetings, where you can keep up to date with the latest happenings within KDE e.V.

To become a Supporting Member, select the *Supporting Membership* option and set your recurring donation amount in the box on the right-hand side of this page. We accept various payment methods to make the process easy and convenient for you.

I like it Nate!

That's great. Thanks everyone!

Thanks!

But does the font have to be monospaced? I think a variable-width font might look better there.

Thanks!

But does the font have to be monospaced? I think a fixed-width font might look better there.

I agree. The font should be the same as in the website.

We have these fonts available:

Which one you want me to use?

Any one is probably fine. Arial is boring and non-controversial so that one gets my vote.

Can we close this ticket as done?
