  • People from under-represented collectives within KDE ? Would that help with that?

I thought we actually discussed not do that. No KDE for Woman website

I was not thinking of a women specific website. In this case, I was thinking of a website for people who require more accessible interfaces... But maybe not. It does not seem to fit in with the rest of the task.

Proposals:

  • Add "Gamers". This is a huge demographic that we're becoming quite popular with due to the Steam Deck.
  • Add "Small businesses". Small business owners are a fertile democraphic because they don't have the resources of a big company and are looking for functionality on the cheap. We can advertise that our productivity and network connectivity software is user-friendly even if you don't have an IT department.
  • Reconsider "Laptop". This is a bit vague and nebulous and I think it would be tough to come up with good content for it.

Yes!

It is probably covered by OEMs anyway.

Now that I think about it, there's probably enough overlap between "Office" and "Small businesses/SMEs" that perhaps they could be combined into a single more general https://kde.org/for/business. The use cases for small business, medium to large businesses, and offices are pretty similar: shared file storage & SMB servers, documents; spreadsheets & presentations; calendaring/PIM; email & chat; meetings, etc.

And "for business" sounds better, more succinct, too.

Hi Carl, independent on the discussion that I missed, I agree :)

We made that experience and tried it in the early 2000's with women.kde.org, but that was on the part of developing KDE itself and opening a room for women to feel welcomed to the project (onboarding) than for women as users or consumers of KDE.

And from the user perspective there's no need. We just use KDE like anyone else if we use it :)

Inspired by the KDE for Scientists page, one proposal I have is:

There's obviously an overlap between Science, Programming (as in development and Computer Science) and Engineering as well as Teaching, so maybe that idea is a bit too short for what it could cover and how.

I think the idea of KDE for Scientists and Developers is a good starting point for discussions and I'm not yet done with my own thoughts here.

So far, I'm just monitoring my own different needs in my every day work life as an engineer (and developer), which are a mixture of tools for teaching (like OpenBoard, using Qt5), tools for Streaming/Recording like OBS (also using Qt5), programming (obviously kdevelop and qt-creator), virtual machines (VirtualBox with Qt5 frontend) and an LTS distro that I could recommend other engineers (with current KDE and applications on top), in addition as an engineer I need good, easy to use serial communications (like Putty, which is well-known by technicians and engineers to use telnet or serial, sometimes ssh to talk to machine interfaces) and some simulating/listening/recording software like Wireshark (also Qt5). For network simulation I use GNS3 (also Qt5 through PyQt). I also use QCad and QElectrotech (both Qt5) which I use as well and for reports I use LaTeX with KLatexformula, KBibTex and Kile.

I hope that gives some Ideas for a page for Engineers, there's more software that is free and written with Qt but most are often more specific in a certain direction of engineering. Feel free to get in touch if more is wanted/needed.

This shows Apple products with Apple Software. :) Someone sitting on a PC with KDE and Krita in production use would show what KDE can do.

Kids: https://www.pexels.com/photo/happy-mother-using-laptop-with-daughter-4473892/

This shows a mother using a laptop, not a child using a laptop playing with KDE apps :)

Scientists: https://www.pexels.com/photo/man-in-white-laboratory-gown-wearing-black-framed-eyeglasses-8851628/

Mabe a picture of CERN using KDE (which they did and there's pictures) would be great

Qt Company should have good images with Qt Code displayed ?

Yes, I know, I'm very KDE biased :) but IMHO Promo should promo using KDE how it's as or more useful than other software, even though most people don't think about images so much and don't interpret it that way.

The suggestions are good. but I think a "good feeling" is more important here than having KDE code on them. on the pages we already use some of those images and showcase actual places and people running the software
