Description

The shortcut system is being redesigned, see T946. Layers are a very common theme in the bug reports, so there may be some special things to keep in mind that relate to the intersection of these goals.

Here are some commonly requested features in the bug reports.

  • Move selected layers with move tool
  • Group selected layers
  • Select/deselect with shortcuts - see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342595
  • Move layer up/down shortcut
  • Select all layers shortcut
  • Merge selected layers
  • Move layer to top / move layer to bottom
  • Duplicate selected layers
  • Copy and paste layer styles
  • New alpha inheritance rules

Select/deselect with middle mouse click (What was the deal with "R"?)

It is a wish bug to select multiple layers by holding 'R' and dragging a box around multiple elements on canvas which will then select the respective layers in layer stack - OR - holding 'Shift+R' and left clicking on multiple elements on canvas which then will select respective layers in the layer stack.

Currently we can quickly select only one layer by holding 'R' and left clicking on the canvas

OK, thank you for explaining for me again, I added that bug report to the list and copied what you said here into the report. It sounds like a great feature idea, I think it would be worth making a phab task for it, when someone gets started.

Isn't middle mouse click for panning the canvas ? 'R' click is for quickly selecting the layers so expanding the same functionality by adding an extra modifier to 'R' or enabling drag select makes sense in my opinion.
