The idea is that we have a policy document that describes which domains we are willing to hold/buy, at which point projects can get their own subdomain on kde.org and so on.

Sorry, I don't have time to actually write down a policy. You might find some material or drafts in board mailing list or ev list archives.

The policy we have used during my time in the board was:

  • KDE e.V. owns kde.org
  • KDE e.V. owns or buys national domains equivalent to kde.org in case there is a team behind the domain providing national content
  • All KDE services and web sites are running under sub domains of kde.org
  • KDE e.V. owns some application specifc domains on behalf of the sub teams working on these, mostly for historical reasons
  • In exceptional cases the board might decide to acquire a domain which doesn't meet the requirements of the topics above
