Updating to the latest version will probably fix the one bug we had with the contribute button on the contribution page. It's also the base for further work.
The latest stable version as of today is 5.5.3.
Along with CiviCRM the CiviSEPA extension also needs to be updated from version 1.2.5 to 1.2.6
The update also will require to deactivate the Donation Receipt Extension (was deprecated with CiviCRM 4.7 and won't work anymore, but wasn't ever used until now).

Have you double checked with the civicrm consultant (forgot his name), that this is OK? Last i remember there was some incompatibility between the sepa stuff and the new civicrm versions.

Yes, this is coming from Detlev. He is in contact with Ben, so I hope things will work out well.
The update was proceeded. Afterwards, some strange things happened on the donation page (an extra donation amount with label "otherlolo" was displayed. Though I do not fully understand the reason - after re-entering some stuff and deleting civicrm caches, this works well again.
The original bug with the "double" contribute button however, is solved with the new version!
Therefore, I marked this task as "resolved".
