It would be very convenient to have simplistic screen recording capabilities built-in, like Peek. Just the ability to create simple GIFs, APNGs, etc. For those who do documentation, blogging, etc. it would be very useful. No audio needed, that can be left to other apps.
Nate Graham has informed me KWin will get functionality that will help accomplish this, in 5.13. We could use that once released.
Integrating this into the existing UI paradigm of Spectacle sounds quite challening. Perhaps such functionality is best offered by a separate, dedicated app? But then, why spend efforts on this and not just use Peek?
Hi @acrouthamel ! Do you have any further information about the kwin functionality? was it in any way used? Or is anybody working on this?
I am interested in screen recording with desktop background as alpha channel. "Greensceening" does not really work cleanly because the Gui has too many color tones for chroma-keying.
