Adding options to scalesboard
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Adding:
balance up to 2;
balance up to 3;
balance up to 4

would allow to explain right from the beginning he meaning of the = sign when writing an addition and its solution.
The equal sign = is much to often seen as a “do something signal”.
(see explanation here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwjg7PHuws3sAhWIGBQKHZE3AIEQFjAAegQIBRAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fgpc-maths.org%2Fdata%2Fdocuments%2Fdoks%2Fbehr-howequal.pdf&usg=AOvVaw1p8qTn7srhe2TxkTPM0zRx)

This perception will overflow the one of equality and block them.

If we introduce the usage of = sign with a balance activity the = sign will be build with the equality meaning.

The advantage of using GCompris here is that it is often difficult to have enough scales in a class, as it is easier to have 3 or 4 pc or tablets.

Can I take this?

Can I take this?

sure :)

Can you please explain what shall be done for this?

If you look at the options of the activity scaleboards, you will see that values presented are :
5
10
20
50
100

Adding the values
2
3
4

would allow teachers from pre-school to use the balance activity to work on equality.

The aim is therefore to add 2 3 and 4 as options to multipledataset.

Technically it is working like a charm.
Pedagogically we need to improve it a bit.
When targeting 2 we should avoid to have 2 as solution, pupils need to compute and compare so we should only place 1 or 3.
When targeting 3 we should avoid to have 3 as solution, pupils need to compute so we should only place 1 or 2 or 4.
