T13073 Task Manager Thumbnail mock ups
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I sketched up two generations of these thumbnails. I'll be showing you the latest as it is the one following the styling of the other mock ups I've uploaded recently and its dimensions are properly set.
However, I'll make the first generation available for view, keep in mind it was literally the first mock ups I made for plasma and using Figma so some things might look a bit weird but I also spent a lot of time on those so it's more complete too so let me know which aspects you'd like to see into the newer generation.

The element displayed are what matters most, the examples I used are for simplicity sake but the behavior is, in my mind, universal across applications, so any program outputting media will show identically set thumbnails (be it Firefox or Falkon or Elisa or Lollypop), any image/picture/window content will be the same too (be it Firefox start page or an image only tab or Gwenview displaying local images).

First generation:

Second generation:

The second of each example is an alternative style which I'm not entirely sure is possible to code.

What about fixed window size regardless of content inside?

What about being based off of the display ratio? I'm doing a 16:9 based mock up and it looks good, I'll do for other ratios later.

3rd Gen, display ratio based. The 9:16 ratio example would work well in my opinion with a taskbar that has "show applications from all workspaces/displays" enabled and one of those displays is portrait mounted.

And here's 4:3 based display ratio. In this one I used a wider than window ratio wallpaper and the result should be the same as in a 16:9 based as from above.

On images thinner than the thumbnail window ratio it is centered from the side borders of the window. On images wider than the thumbnail window ratio it is centered from the closest borders of the information sections, i.e, the window header and text/media control bar; if it was centered from the top and bottom most vertical borders of the window it could look odd.

Probably the most perfected I'll reach. Note the use of Manuel's Breeze styling and a matching footer to other plasmoids.
