Launcher Groups in Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

A common gripe I've had with the Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager Plasmoids is that you get them all set up with pins and so on just for that to all go to waste the moment you remove the plasmoid.

This is why I'm going to present the idea of a "Launcher Groups" feature. Inspired by Latte's Global Launchers option, this'd allow people to make presets for launchers that get used and set by Task Manager plasmoids. To keep people from being unable to have different pins per Task Manager instance, however, we could have multiple groups instead of just one Launcher Group to store pins inside of. Every instance of Task Manager would default to the first instance, however users can then set different Task Manager instances to use different launcher groups.

This'd also allow stuff like automatic panel creation on other monitors ala Windows 10's other monitor taskbars further down the line as well due to task managers having the same matching set of pinned applications.

Pretty much imagine this: Group 1 (the default group) would have a set of launchers that the user configured (the default pins for each launcher group can be configured by the distributor just like pins currently can be), while Group 2 (created by the user) would be another set of launchers that the user configured, Group 3, 4, etc.

The launcher group used would be configurable from the Task Manager instance's settings dialog via a drop-down menu.

Seems like it might be easier and more straightforward to simply fix https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355588.

...And that's fixed now. Seems good enough. :)
