In Chinese and maybe other languages, there is a differentiation on how to call relative depending the fact they are on mother side or father side.
The aim would be to help them adding contexts in the answers and options to these strings to know which side of the family the people comes.

About how to call family members, it's different in English and Chinese.
At least in China/Taiwan, how to call a family member depends on if this member is from father's or mother's families.
For example, for "Grandpa/Grandfather", we have different titles to call father's father and mother's father.
For "uncle" we have different titles to call father's elder brothers, father's younger brothers,
mother's elder brothers and mother's younger brothers.
Not to mention even complicated titles like cousin, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and so on.
