Description

I was investigating (again) Qt's issue with loading translations and the locale.
Let us say that I am using an Arabic (RTL language) interface and my locale is set to Arabic as well.

  • Applications with no Arabic translations appear mirrored. So you get a UI that is mirrored but not translated, and using your system locale and gets the locale's Qt translation, having Cut/Paste/Copy/Undo/Redo, numbers and maybe time and date, all in your locale's language.

Say hello to Krita, RTL interface, Arabic/Hindi numbers and Arabic menu text!

This feels odd. If a translation couldn't be found (I removed it for the sake of showing this), then we should ignore (at least) the user's locale when it comes to mirroring and translations. We may keep the numbers, dates, times, etc.
  • Overriding an applications give the same results.

This is Kate, in an Arabic locale enviroment and overrided (via the Help menu) with Deutsch (Well, it was supposed to be English or French, not Deutsch, but well..)

Here we can see more nice stuff: Arabic translated plugins and application name in Arabic!

This same senario will happen with a LTR system (English) and Arabic overriding. Check: T7049
I think there should be a way for fixing this in the frameworks themselves and not in each application (which is what people are currently doing for Qt.)

Am I just exaggerating?
