Okular UI redesign
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

I created a mockup for Okular some time ago.
The main intention was to create a better user experience.

What changed ?

  • Darkened the background behind the actual document to have better contrast and make the document stand out more.
  • Move the search field to the right toolbar where most other applications have them.
  • Move the zoom fields to the status bar and add a zoom slider like we use to have it in Dolphin.
  • Aligned the status modes in the middle of the toolbar to separate them from other actions (now where we have the sexy spacer)
  • Added actions for "first page" and "last page" by default just to make use of the free space.
  • Get rid of the "view switcher"
    • The thumbnail view replaces the default scrollbar, as we have it in KTextEditor component
    • The three other views are separated into independent components and can be closed or rearranged on both sides of the main window, like we have them in Dolphin too

Also, I think that KHamburgerMenu should be implemented. Gwenview and Dolphin already have it.

I am liking the compartmentalisation of the viewers so that they are similar to what has been implemented by Dolphin, but I am confident that the background should adapt to the theme of the host by default, because that is more consistent, and because contrast has not been problematic for me during observation of files within Okualar, and may appear to be quite ugly to new users.
