In particular we'll need:

Show if message is encrypted and/or signed
Show if we trust the signature if available
Less important: Allow to get to more detailed keyinformation, potentially linking to the addressbook entry of the person if available.

We have now an iconbutton for both encryption and signature state. The bar is only displayed on hover to show how far the affected part goes.
