New category for LUTs (Kdenlive)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We want to add the possibility to download LUTs (Color Look-Up-Tables for
videos) within the kdenlive video-editor with KNewStuff. To achieve this we need a new category
at https://store.kde.org.

The higher category for Kdenlive is here
https://store.kde.org/browse/cat/333/order/latest/
Kdenlive can read LUTs with this extentions: *.cube *.3dl *.dat *.m3d

Thanks!

P.S.: I wrote to contact@opendesktop.org, but havent got a reaction for more than a week and was pointed to this workboard by #kde-sysadmin irc

@starbuck Coming back to you with two requests:

  1. Can you please add another category "Kdenlive Effect Templates"
  2. Is it possible to rename categories? If so could you rename category 185 (Kdenlive FX) to "Kdenlive Lumas"

Okay, I just realized that renaming the category would break the backward compatibility since KNS fetches the categories via name so forget about the second request…

Hi Julius,

regarding a possible rename:
Not necessarily, we added a "retro-field" that should be independent from
how the category is spelled visibly in the store.
So we could try this out and unless something weird happens, I expect it to
work.

Greetings, Clemens.

Added, could take up to 24h to propagate fully through.

Okay, lets go then!

Okay :)
Renaming "Kdenlive FX" to "Kdenlive Lumas" then.
If there are any issues within 24-48 hours, we can simply switch back.
You need people also to switch categories for certain items then, or is
"Lumas" correct for all items in category 185?

Thanks a lot for your kind support, Clemens!

It seems to work! The renaming is already present in the api (https://api.kde-look.org/ocs/v1/content/categories) and the KNS download in the app still works.

There are indeed three items, that don't fit to category 185, but they also don't fit to another category except the Kdenlive parent category. Is it possible to move them to the parent category?

Sorry I was wrong: https://store.kde.org/p/1617929 should be moved to the new category "Kdenlive Effect Templates" (686)

For the two others: If it is not possible to move them to the parent category we might add another category called "Kdenlive Library Clips"

Should be all done/switched. Parent category is not possible if there
subcategories, so added those to a new one.

Perfect, thanks again! One (hopefully) last thing:

The user roxanep (she created the three items we moved recently) contacted us with the following message:

"[...] the pling payout depends on the section and it seems that some of the new categories are not part of the "kde themes and extensions" section anymore, so there's no section factor associated to the products."

To be honest I don't know much about how the payouts work. Can you have a look please?

Ah yes, I take care of that, thanks for reminding!

Just curious: What is the difference between Lumina vs. Effect Templates?

The luma category is for greyscale images that can be used to make custom transitions (you can use it in Kdenlive eg. with the Wipe transition). https://docs.kdenlive.org/de/effects_and_compositions/transitions/wipe.html

The effect template category is for xml files that contain information about effects (so far also known as "Custom Effects" in Kdenlive). Kdenlive has lots of effects with different purposes such as color correction, transformation and many more. The xml describes a certain order of (available) effects and maybe also other parameter values than the default ones.

Ah okay, now it makes sense :)
