Description

Greetings! Looking at the current YouTube channel we have I've noticed some parts that could get some improvement.

Verification Badge

In my opinion, it'll help stand out the channel in the search results and possibly provide more audience and recognition to the channel. SUSE channel has one (although openSUSE does not). Channels can apply for verification if they have more than 100,000 subscribers but support page also has a statement which says: "YouTube may also proactively verify channels with fewer than 100,000 subscribers that are well-known outside of YouTube." Digging through the Internet I didn't find any information on how to get the verification badge without 100,000 subscribers but it seems like you can contact YouTube Creator Support Team to get some information about this, I'm pretty sure it's possible. Also having verification badge on Twitter might provide some help with that. Since I have my own channel I've tried to contact the YTCST but since I haven't uploaded in a while I don't have this option anymore and I can't check this option directly. It would be great to know if KDE channel has access to this feature. I can work on this task to the end since I have some decent YouTube experience but of course I need others' opinion first.

Channel trailer

It might provide some great overview on what KDE is for the new viewers. We already have Plasma 2020 video (I loved making it a lot) which has some basic insights. I think it might be okay to put this video for the new viewers (for this year) but having the new Plasma release video as the channel trailer is also good (right now it doesn't have any, at least for me), so I don't know what option is better. But if people will agree on the trailer for new users I might come up with something.

Rearrange categories

Right now it's set up as: Created PlaylistsUploads. I recommend setting this up differently, e.g. picking the most popular playlist or something you want to promote currently. Since KDE had Akademy event recently, we can put Akademy 2020 as the first playlist to promote the Akademy videos. It will look something like this: Akademy 2020UploadsPopular. Or because KDE is mostly know for the Plasma DE it can go like this: UploadsPlasma DesktopPopular. I'm keeping the Popular category on because the most popular videos are Plasma releases which is a good material on how Plasma progressed throughout these years.

Community tab

I see it has some activity every now and then but do we really need it? I don't know how much attention it gets but I tried using it on my channel and it wasn't worth maintaining until you are big YouTube influencer which uses the platform at its fullest. YouTube allows disabling Community tab and I consider it not worth the time maintaining it.

Playlists

I saw two unmaintained playlists: KDE España and Reviews. KDE España can be deleted and converted as a favorite channel in the sidebar for everyone to see on the homepage of the channel. Reviews can be treated in two ways: delete it as it hasn't been updated in a while or keep maintained and just add all the popular reviews in there (especially the recent 5.20 one from The Linux Experiment, but it's also good to have other channels rather than one). If it can be maintained then it's worth putting this playlist on the homepage of the channel.

Links

Links section need some attention. Having KDE.org instead of www.kde.org. If we have Twitter link in there then other social media links should be added too. But I prefer having only the website as it omits the need to maintain these links (in case the link changes).

Business e-mail

Might be helpful if there are some (for unknown reason) copyright issues or something else which can be directly resolved through the e-mail. It's also a big bait for spammers, but I just use my separate e-mail for YouTube specifically. You can't avoid spammers.

Featured channels

KDE España can be definitely added there. I don't know about other YouTube channels from KDE but it would be great to add some more if KDE has any that need attention.

Branding

Branding includes profile picture, banner and video watermark. I like the current profile picture but it needs some alignment as it has little offset to the right. The current banner of KDE community looks really nice although I have some ideas that will help include more than one photo in the banner. Watermark (on the bottom right) in every video is the same as the profile picture. As KDE logo is very versatile in terms of design I suggest changing the logo to just transparent one without the background.

Comments Interaction

Interacting with the community by liking and pinning their comments (especially from popular YouTubers, like on the screenshot above) is a great way to show that you love your community and interact with them. It can also bring some audience to them, or from them. It's a little more work but adds a nice touch to the channel (from my experience).

I think I mentioned everything that needs attention. As I am starting to work more and more on the video promotion I might request access to the YouTube channel to maintain it as I am running my own (if this action is needed of course) so I can configure everything that will be approved and just keep the channel in shape (of course discussing with others beforehand if something needs to be added or changed). I will provide all the resources like banner, watermark or trailer as well as contacting with YouTube directly if needed.

Thank you in advance!
