The How to Contribute Wiki

Activities

We require 15 articles, which are organised into a TODO list, identified articles have Project Issues linked to the Projects workboard. If you have an article idea that should be included into Issue One please create an Issue and then update the todo list with the articles title, and link back to the Issue in the Project.

Marketing and Outreach

The core mission of the Magazine is to find it's way into the hands of people outside of the KDE community. To achieve this, the plan is to advertise the magazine as a Free PDF which is emailed to people with interest. Here are some of the tasks that will need to be completed.

  • Define target interests
  • Define advertise budget
  • Source funding
  • Set up campaigns
  • Set up Email Subscriber mechanism
  • Set up Subscriber distribution mechanism

Marketing and In-Reach

This is a separate consideration which relates to communicating about the Magazine to Projects and Distributions about the Magazine, and also helping them to communicate about it to their communities. This will probably involve helping them setup Download links on their websites, Magazine subscription forms on their websites and supporting them with other ideas that they may want to implement.

  • Identify contact/communication pathways to communicate the magazine to Projects / Distributions
  • Provide generic code for a Subscriber form
  • Provide generic code for a Issues Download page
  • Reach out to their community leaders and ask if they want to propose/author an article

Maybe you are jumping the gun here a bit. We have not discussed with the rest of the crew if this is something they want to do.

That would be the first step: take it to the people you think can help you, see if this something they are willing to spend time and effort doing. I suggest you pitch your idea to the channels and mailing lists of the people who can help the project succeed (Promo, VDG, wherever devs that write blog pasts hang out).

Step two would be discussing the magazine itself. It is good you have a template already, since it gives a point from which people can start working. That said, it may be wise to consider it a draft. I can guarantee that, if you get the interest of a team of collaborators, there will be discussions on the title, periodicity, format, etc.

Step three would be to discuss sourcing materials, and assigning roles, such as editors who will adapt the texts, proofreaders to correct them and designers willing to do the layout.

Only once you have those three things would it be time to talk about issue 1 and start requesting contributions.

Therefore I suggest you simplify your TODO and work through those three subtasks in order.

Also, you may want to explain in this task what the aim of this project is, that is, how does this help Promo achieve any of its goals.

As this is still in the "Idea" phase until we have had the opportunity to discuss this in the Promo group, I am going to put this into the "Incoming" column. The current column is only for tasks the team has agreed to work on.
