Crashes in Share's online LibreOffice editor
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello,

I am having difficulty with the Collabora online Libreoffice suite at Share. When I make a change to a document, about 1 out of 3 times, the whole document freezes and I cannot move the cursor, write in it or make any changes. The only solution is to close the document, but then I can't open it up again, as I get the spinning circle of death. The only solution then is to close the browser's tab, open Share in a new tab and and then open the document.

Thanks for your help.

So we can get some diagnostic information on this, would you mind opening the browser inspector (Right Click anywhere on the page > Inspect, in Chrome at least) before you open the document and leaving it open in the background?

Once the freeze hits it would be nice to know what the console has logged in it (as trouble is likely to be noted down there)

Based on some log entries on the server it looks like the background process supporting the document editing has gone away - are you opening it and leaving it open for some time by any chance before returning to it?

Okay. I found it in Firefox.

Okay. I'll do that.

Yes. I do do that. I write something in, go looking for a resource, come back and it is often frozen. But it has also happened without that. I'll get back to you with the output from the Console.

The document will freeze for a minute or so (not forever as I earlier reported) and then show this message.

Document cannot be saved. Check your permissions or contact the storage server administrator.

When yo click "OK" you recover control of the document.

The JavaScript console in Firefox meanwhile shows this:

Content Security Policy: Ignoring ‘x-frame-options’ because of ‘frame-ancestors’ directive.
Content Security Policy: The page's settings blocked the loading of a resource at inline ("script-src"). T9545:1:1

Next time it froze for longer than a minute and would not refresh the work area:

I've performed an upgrade from LibreOffice Online 3.x to 4.x this evening as part of a server move for it, and at the same time changed some of the settings for it to ensure worker processes stay around for longer - which will hopefully resolve the issue.

If you could please test this over the coming week that would be appreciated.

If this issue continues to occur we may need to contact the Nextcloud extension developers for assistance.
