Lockscreen

Description

Create a lock screen theme according to the following mockup and specification:

https://share.kde.org/index.php/s/0WRG8Us8qElwgDP
Thumbnail Animation: https://share.kde.org/index.php/s/DR1HV3d9HRHRigJ

The locks screen has to share the basic concept of the SDDM screen as it is in
practice, from the users perspective, almost the same thing.
Thats why it inherits the stock-blue background (editable from the lockscreen
settings).
When the lockscreen is actvated it displays a swift fade-to-black from desktop
and an even quicker fade-FROM-black to lockscreen. The goal is to make a swift
switch and make it feel more like a secure door slamming than a slow fade.
If that feels too complex this late in the release cycle a temporary solution
is just a direct switch, ignoring all animations.

I have some questions:

  • how is the user switcher components supposed to look like?
  • How should the transition between unlock screen and user session screen look like?
  • Where do we integrate the battery information?
  • How is the OSD (e.g. audio muted) going to look like in the new lock screen?
  • How is keyboard layout switching supposed to be integrated?
  • Is the blue a solid color or is there a gradient? In both cases please provide the color values in a way that it can be integrated (that is not a screenshot)
  • The user screenshot is shown as a circle - where do we take that from?

When the lockscreen is actvated it displays a swift fade-to-black from desktop and an even quicker fade-FROM-black to lockscreen.

This part is difficult and needs integration from KWin side which we currently don't have. That is engineering work in addition to the change of the theme. Getting this correct is extremely difficult and I doubt it's possible to implement with the touch time line we have here.

In any case I need way more information about this animation. How long are those animations supposed to be? How exactly are they supposed to look like?

What are the exact metrics for the layout?

I have some questions:

Hey Martin,

Let me answer the questions that I "do" know

  • how is the user switcher components supposed to look like?

They would look the same as this one minus the options that don't apply. Meaning, the icons that don't go there in the screen won't be there for switcher, but the rest is the same.

  • How should the transition between unlock screen and user session screen look like?

They should probably just "appear." We talked about transitions but felt that it was easier to not use animations and reserve that work for later versions.

  • Where do we integrate the battery information?

Battery information, such as a representation of a battery should be in the lock screen below the clock. Other areas could be top right or bottom right of the screen. Whichever feels easier to implement.

  • How is the OSD (e.g. audio muted) going to look like in the new lock screen?

I didn't design this, but I can add it and show. Does the system have capabilities to display any size, color, placement?

  • How is keyboard layout switching supposed to be integrated?

Yes, it is supposed to go at the bottom along the session menu

  • Is the blue a solid color or is there a gradient? In both cases please provide the color values in a way that it can be integrated (that is not a screenshot)

There is no gradient. It is solid blue.

  • The user screenshot is shown as a circle - where do we take that from?

Do you mean, where do you get the user image, or the circle?

Well you how to turn the random user image into a circle without looking bad.

Could I have mockups for all the different states? I want to see where the battery icon is, where the keyboard switcher goes, capslock warning and so on.

I need extremely detailed information for each of the states to implement it as the VDG envisions. Otherwise I will implement something which might or might not match what you wanted. Which means that we have to adjust again to the changes and the time is wasted.

I updated the mockup(s) to include metrics. Everything has basically the same metrics as shown in image 8 to 14 except some elements are added or removed depending on which screen we are talking about. Almost everything you mentioned should be answered in the description of image 8-14. The only thing missing is the OSD, which does not change.
