A Storyboard feature would offer an alternative workflow, focused more on the story and the flow of story. This feature would make Krita more standalone animation program.
Why is it needed?
Storyboarding is an important pre-processing step for animation. It helps get a feel for the story and create a better flowing animation. So it basically helps in planning the animation or scene beforehand.
How would it be done?##Storyboard requirements
###General
- Storyboard is stored as a single .kra file
- Every stroyboard item is a non-empty frame on the image's timeline
- Duration of a storyboard item is a number of hold frames after the storyboarditem's frame
- Storyboard items are static images, they don't support internal animation
* I am looking into other programs that do storyboarding.###Storyboard docker
* We can make a storyboard object as a collection of- Shows thumbnails for every non-empty frames and comments. of the image
* A typical workflow would include drawing some- Shows selected metadata for each frames and adding them to the storyboard from the timeline docker., e.g. dialogs, actions, Then comments can be added for the frame in a new storyboard docker.
* To update that frame in the storyboard we can change the drawing for a frame and then again add it to storyboard.
* Clicking on the frame in the storyboard docker jumps to that frame and displays that frame on canvascomments and etc
- The fields in metadata should be configured in per-document basis
- The frames can be reordered with D&D operation.
* We can delete- The duration of the frame from the storyboard docker by right clicking and selecting an option for deleting.can be configured easily (modifies the amount of hold frames on the timeline)
* Add a hide button for each text and thumbnail fiel- The user can paint on the thumbnail in the docker. When painting on the thumbnail, the user paints directly on the
image's frame via mechanism of KisScratchPad.
* We can also implement version-control system to keep track of changes and try out new things.- (optional) The frames of the image may be "pinned" to the storyboard, or "unpinned" from it
* Different modes of arranging frames can be implemented, such as horizontal, vertical, comments only etc.###Import/Export features
* Navigating through the storyboard- The user should be done in both page and layer(continuous) manners.able to export the storyboard into PDF/SVG
* We can have options to export the storyboard in document form( pdf, odf etc) which would be similar to what is displayed in the storyboard docker or animation sequence( gif, mp3 etc) which would have fixed time for each frame plus some additional time based on size of comment.- The layout of exported document should be configured somehow (use SVG for that?)
* Add a drag and zoom button similar to timeline frame zoom button (optional) The docker may have a special text view from where the user may D&D text into metadata fields.
