Description

Kubuntu (/kuː.ˈbuːn.tuː/ koo-boon-too) is an official flavour of the Ubuntu operating system which uses the KDE Plasma Desktop instead of GNOME Shell. As part of the Ubuntu project, Kubuntu uses the same underlying systems. Every package in Kubuntu shares the same repositories as Ubuntu, and it is released regularly on the same schedule as Ubuntu.

Thank you very much for the feedbacks, packages are being copied to the regular backports PPA right now.

2 laptops and a desktop tested with fw 5.52. All working as expected. Nice job, greatly appreciated.

Can easily make a test exfat volume to mount in virtualbox, so should be simple to test. Similar code to install samba via packagekit exists in kdenetwork-filesharing source, so this should be possible.

If not, then another option could be to make the warning message in Dolphin not so absurdly technical and instead explain what packages need to be installed for it to work.

That's something we should do anyway. Can you file a bug on bugs.kde.org and preferably attach a screenshot depicting the current error message? I'm semi-familiar with the code in question and may be able to offer up a quick fix.

Due to Microsoft joining the OIN it might be possible for exfat support to be included in a future release. Once Canonical Legal addresses this then I think it would be good to add.

Ok. Could be doable. My initial comment stands though. I would want a legal OK from higher up.

Bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/exfat-utils/+bug/1649537 links to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/intellectualproperty/mtl/exfat-licensing.aspx which explicitly states:

Doubt we can do this unless this can be shown to be wrong AND it gets ok'd by Ubuntu/Canonical legally.

Hmm, maybe it's just the network-manager-openvpn package, and network-manager-openvpn-gnome happens to work because it pulls that package in as a required dependency.

Not sure I 100% believe this, as:

  • That package only contains the gnome config GUI and auth dialog.
  • On Kubuntu support/IRC recently, a couple of people successfully set up openvpn with just the network-manager-openvpn package

Will have to investigate properly...

Rik's list is great! Palapelli is pretty cool too. Single player puzzles. Adding a few games would be excellent. I play klondike from kpat multiple times per week.

Anything you can trim away? IIRC, Kubuntu ships with a full boat of System and Utility apps, which a lot of users might not need. I don't know how much space you can shave away with small apps like that - just thinking out loud.

+1 for Krita only if size is a concern. It's pretty big these days.

I vote for KPatience and KMahjong. They're two very good-looking games, proving that Linux games aren't pixellated messes from the 1980s. Plus, they're sort-of "classics", included in a lot of distros and even competing OSes like iOS and Windows. It would give Kubuntu a well-rounded feeling as a complete and user-friendly distro.

These are not the smallest of apps in terms of adding to our iso size. Not sure I am convinced.
