Memorandum: for vertical writing for Japanese, "Tategaki" plugin for Gimp could be useful.

I prefer Alternate Condensed Layout v2 because we have to condense its width higjly and make its height variable in order to fit it into a docker (It is width that decide space requirement of dockers in most cases.)
And "Save Brush Window" is a truly brilliant idea! It satisfies most of our requirement, and, abave all, we could implement it with a minimum change. It would be better than my idea of Brush Icon Library M79 which would need drastic changes of structure of program...

And so I think asking on first startup could be a good idea because it can also let first-time users know about the workspace feature. Maybe it can also account for the small screen and suggest a compact workspace.

I agree to your idea that add first startup choice something like that
I check and rework my workspace in 1024x600. It wouldn't go crazy like when I switched my workspace in Animation in small screen. Please ensure that by yourself.
First of all, What we should suppose is that newbie users probably won't predict that krita has a workspace system and can't find where they should go to customize UI by themselves, which means that quite a few users will keep using krita with default workspace. Therefore, I think to set too simple workspace as a default one is the same as to leave newbies behind a desert island.

little story...
"After the release of Krita 3.0, the animation edition, Saisho Kazuki, professional Japanese animator adopted Krita as one of his tools. He readily agreed to our request to contribute a template he made for his work to us. His template is based on true steps of animation which are used in Japanese Anime Studios."

Updated:
His name is Saisho Kazuki. So please add it to the credit when we implement this template into Krita.
He sent a master file to me. I confirmed that it is translated into English completely.

SVG2 still isn't enough to show Japanese text in Japanese typography. I suggest that we should introduce some specifications from css into our text tool to show Ruby characters https://www.w3.org/TR/css-ruby-1/ and Horizontal in vertical https://www.w3.org/TR/css-writing-modes-3/#text-combine . These typographies is very important to show Japanese text.

Oh, I forgot to add horizontal-in-vertical to my mockup...

http://ngroku.com/?p=813
不透明度はストロークが自分自身に重なってもそれ以上濃度は上がらないが、流量は自分自身に重なった場合濃度がどんどん上昇してゆく(Buildup≒流量、Wash≒不透明度)
