I like the idea of two big sections "Help wanted" and "Special interest groups", as this diminish the biggest first problem for contributing: the how and the can I do it? placing easy "tasks" for beginners and deeper specifyc task in another area.

Making the option available in the "Layer properties" pop-up is the most intuitive for me. But don't remove all the other options as the "file layer" pop-up does, add to the extra field to the popup instead in case is clone layer :)

Updated: used booleans for booleans and not ints

This patch fixes shift + Click using isInStasis property for nodes, allowing to keep a state for each image on same instance different window / tab, or different instances. It keeps control off nodes from the root of each individual tree.

Dmitry solution does not allow to get all layers in the same size. Nor is it possible to have smaller cropped layers.

With dmitry's proposal we can have grow and fit to image export layers behaviour.

As spoken to dmitry: 1.3.3/patched or 1.4.1 are ok as long as it can paint on 8bit and 32bit canvases.
