I reread your comment, I guess I misunderstood your aim. You're actually creating a Breeze CSS right?

This is the absolute bikeshedding, everyone having to follow a huge thread about communication instead of actually planning and doing the video.
I understand that you prefer conpherence, but everyone else doesn't. it's not worth switching everyone over. and takes 3mins to sing up to Matrix for a new contributor. So, please, either create a new task to discuss switching everyone to conpherence or join matrix and stop bikeshedding.

Surely this is much easier to do than creating new Phabricator projects with restricted access.
Actually this is not the right place to discuss this over and over again at all. I dont want to change your habits just right now. My aim is to explore the limits of the platform directly available (phabricator) before switching into the next infrastructural thingy.

@bcooksley @lydia
I added a "Confidential Showreel" home theatre room. Members of the project "KDE Promo: Confidential" and regular participants are able to see its content. https://phabricator.kde.org/Z36
Furthermore I think the tasks related to "promo video" should become a sub-project of "KDE Promo" named "Videos". Producing HQ videos is not a single task anyway. Additionally it enables me to grant members of "KDE Promo/Videos" access to the Confidential Showreel Room. Such simple refactoring could make projects like "KDE Promo: Confidential" obsolete.
I experience project-related communication via Matrix inconsistent regarding Onboarding and Access Management. Matrix/irc have their unquestionable benefits for sure, but kde is complex enough.

the matrix room obviously demands invitation. I invited you to phabricator room some month ago, you left the room, so you cannot see the link anymore. The link shows a quick glass-pane-gui concept in blender with trashy 80s synth music, the blender scene is already shared.

true. sometimes I practice at home or in the bikeshed. do you have a room to post the results to?
Hi @acrouthamel ! Do you have any further information about the kwin functionality? was it in any way used? Or is anybody working on this?
unfortunately it shall not be right now. first neochat crashed. now it says: Login Failed: Monthly Active User Limit Exceeded.

Do you think it is technically "complex" to implement to have wallpaper derived colors as accent color? So that accent colors will change by Activity?
I wrote "complex" because the term has fallen several times here:

We had this problem for the last Gear video: too much bikeshedding not enough video making. It is time to show samples of what you mean in the promovideo room

You must have seen me use 'Make it yours', which I honestly really like since it implies that Plasma is very flexible and personal.
That said, I would like you folks to start unifying your criteria as to what the video should contain and how it should look and sound. I do not want to impose my own criteria because I think you all know it would be radically different from a lot of what you are saying here, and I do not want to throw a spanner in the works at this stage. Which brings me to:
- you should start to compromise and agree on the look and content of the video before it becomes too late. There is a lot of bikeshedding going on this discussion and it is eating into time you should be rendering stuff and producing the actual video
- a lot of this discussion should be happening in the Matrix room. At this stage, the stuff that goes here should be the stuff you have decided on as a group.
TL/DR: Stop bikeshedding. Make video.

I wish it had so much meaning lol :)
I guess it does, we just didnt know it yet. I just read about it coincidentally.
@aronkvh @paulb the mythological figure of the dragon (especially in china) symbolizes the hardly predictable forces of natural phenomena in many cultures. Today we call it Tensors, with which we try to simulate complex systems. The background design reminds me of this approach describing reality as multilinear geometry (geological, metereological models etc). It's about "taming the dragon"
In T14753#263396, @aronkvh wrote:I like the ideas, but I really think we shouldn't try to be funny /retro/synthwave or rock music /90's commercial parody- for the release video; and save cute dragons and humour and absurdity and the action movie style for the birthday video, for fans who understand it more and appreciate it more
In T14753#263395, @paulb wrote:I meant to say "I don't think they liked it". For the background, we have @aronkvh 's wallpaper. As we have the blends also, we can leave the ocean-like grid (which, if I remember right, Aron himself suggested doing) and we have an elegant understated backdrop.

but I don't think they didn't like it, so it may not be used.
But one of the things I was thinking was to project images or screencasts of older versions of the desktop and apps onto the 25, the background or the whole scene. Combine that with some smooth camera movements and you got yourself and intro, I guess.
Edit: I am aware the materials and lighting still look bad. I would have to retouch those.

@paulb @VicFic18 @NayamAmarshe hi folks!
just got positive response from Theo who produces the Synthwave/Synthpop projects I mentioned above (Hills And Valleys; Above The Sky)! He says that his studio is currently under development and not effectively usable, but he basically likes to contribute to interesting projects, and so he asks if there is a deadline - if there is interest from the community he can compose and produce a kde-track. But he also offered to contribute a track from "Hills and Valleys"-Project depending on the deadline.
What do you think about the sound?

I asked the mind behind "Above The Sky" and "Hills And Valleys" -- an IMHO talented artist from Germany -- if he has interest/ideas in contributing a voluntary propasal, so I linked him to this discussion page. Hopefully he has muse and time. I first encountered his sound on SomaFM/Defcon radio. I think his Synthpop/Synthwave sound is pretty catchy and nostalgic with kind of kraftwerk'esque bikeride-drive and also strong positive synthie-mood. And as KDE is a pretty old dinosaur :-) synthwave can maybe catch the spirit. Currently I am voluntary working on several music videos for "Above The Sky" produced with KDE+Kdenlive

@bcooksley awesome thanks! its a bit frightening though. Yes great idea to clean it up a bit (reduce depth)! Now its showtime for StrozziNoSQL & Starbase :-D
hi @bcooksley,
can you help me out with invent.kde.org? I am not allowed to create a '.gitmodules' file in my repository.
is my script contribution for the lists in the right place?
I'd compose a crisp short of KDE users' favorite custom workflows they invented to solve concrete problems with the customizability of KDE UI. Preferably workflows that save time or help staying organized (thats what I always miss if I HAVE TO do wage labor on Windows).
Sep 2 2021
@bcooksley oh havent you seen my merge request? its in the /bin directory.
@bcooksley Ok I added a helper script to download.kde.org. it has some options to define a target directory.
@lydia thanks! I'll have a look into internet archive, but I am afraid they don't index compressed file archive content. But for further research its great! they have kde-files.org back to 2005 and kde-apps to 2004, kde.org even back to 1998 in the wayback machine. So reconstructing the kde evolution will surely need manual investigation beyond the source code history I guess.

currently looking up the historical sound effects on repositories and attic but its very hard to do it remotely. First tried: https://download.kde.org/Attic/2.2.2/src/kdemultimedia-2.2.2.tar.bz2
unpack, no *.ogg files there, hm.
Hi!
I currently prepare a Linux-Sampler and collecting KDE Sounds of older Versions to use it as Instrument with MIDI Files (eg Happy Birthday Song), but I am just at the beginning yet. I'll hopefully come up with a minimal prototype this week.
