Here is my personal opinion on an ideal brush preset icon.

My problem is: I can't tell the order my last used colors were used, which can be important:
- For ex. when I paint with very similar colors, and I want to go back to the color I used before the one I'm using now... which one was it? If I didn't paint with 100% opacity, that exact color may not exist on the canvas for picking again.

The primary use cases I can think of, and my opinion on them:

User can select any brush via the tagging menu, and assign it to this slot. If a brush was already assigned and a new one replaces the old one.

Please for the love of all that's sacred, don't change the E key from "turning currently used preset into eraser" into doing something else. It is one of the best unique features in Krita. Don't kill one of those things that make Krita different in a positive way! Also, for those who do have a stylus eraser and are fine with using that, it would actually decrease usability and functionality to replace E with a dedicated tool for which we already have stylus eraser.

I have the same issue with latest 3.0 build. Just as described above, the more I zoomed in the worse it lags, but ONLY if canvas is rotated arbitrarily.

I personally stopped using eraser presets ever since I discovered what E does. This is a unique feature in Krita and one of the best feature I've ever seen, please do not make it go away! If i REALLY want an eraser preset, that's what the eraser side of my stylus is for. I press E like a million times while painting, I don't want to press Shift-E every time instead...

About the suggestion that B cycles without modifier key if Brush already selected: I don't like it, because it can be confusing. If you press B because you think you are not on brush yet, or accidentally double press it, you end up with something else than what you wanted.
Sorry, Phabricator was buggy: Clicking either Create Task or Cancel seemed to do nothing, and I reloaded page after clicking a few times, upon which I realized it actually created a new ticket every time despite seemingly doing nothing...
