Predefined project profiles for 360/spherical video
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Would be nice if by default there will be section with profiles defined for 360/spherical/panoramic video.
There is more and more 360 cameras on the market also in consumer electronics category. When someone new will try to start spherical movie project, mostly that person will be wanting just merge a few pieces of the recordings (as cameras often divide movie into files by 2GB (old FAT32 limitation)).

This person want to create movie with same parameters (resolution, aspect ratio and frame rate) - so this category can list positions by camera name and a few generic.

First time I have also faced such issue and wandered why application cannot set project profile based on first added clip. It was hard surprise that after creating first movie audio started to miss video flow - because of wrong default project profile. I was very pissed...

Now, I deal with that launching movie in VLC and opening codec properties. Writing them down and creating new profile based on those data.

Would be nice if kdenlive would ask when adding first clip “Do you want to adjust project profile to this clip parameters?” - so the resolution, frame rate and others will be set automatically (copied) for project (with option to save them for future as presets/ new profile – check box “Create new profile”).
Often you just want to keep original clip parameters and just mix a few tracks (created by camera) into one movie, so why should you manually need to provide project's profile in such case? This is a generic option that could be useful not only for 360deg. video clips.

Some RAW and stitched material can be found on Google Disk.

There are some frei0r.bigsh0t effects for 360 footage. Maybe these will cover your needs. Beside that it is very low priority.
