Following @lydia's email on the idea we discussed for a reddit AMA for the goals, I thought it would be good to expand this as a general task of the Promo team.
AMA's are a tool the we could put to use in the long term. I started writing this as a general suggestion for holding AMAs on reddit, but then realized it can easily expand to social networks, forums, etc. Holding AMAs will help in getting us closer to our community and attract the interest from people and users on its periphery, and why not from persons outside our traditional audience.
We could host them under our own accounts/subreddits or cooperate with other popular organizations/subreddits that are directly or indirectly relevant to our interests and objectives so we can reach a wider audience.
AMAs could occur on a regular basis (after major Plasma releases), irregularly (after a major announcement or application release) and even spontaneously (we feel like doing one). They can of course be general (hey we are here, what do you want to talk about?) or focus on a specific theme ( a release, an application, a product or another topic of discussion).
Some random AMA examples and topics I came up with to kickstart the brainstorming could revolve around:
- slimbook on r/linuxhardware
- kdenlive on a video editing website/subreddit
- krita on a designers/digital artists forum
- localization/documentation
- getting involved
It would be ideal if the Promo team is not always alone in these AMAs. We should involve KDE contributors from across our community and demonstrate its diversity in terms of fields and expertise.
I'm not aware if something similar was attempted in the past and if yes, how successful it was.
Thoughts?
