[Akademy] 3DDesign Contest | Promo + Atelier
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We discussed on the channel about a contest before Akademy of 3D designs involving KDE so we can live print during Akademy using Atelier and 3DPrinters.
My initial idea is around a Katie/Konqi model with a background of the recently KDE Goals. But we can improve that.

I think that we need:

  • Setup the theme and ground rules
  • Timeline
  • How many designs will be selected
  • Dot Story

When you say "Set up ground rules", do you mean "rules for the contest"?

This contest is like an art competition, yes? You want people to submit designs, correct?

@laysrodrigues based on your recent email to the Akademy Team this is all based on the assumption that you would be able to borrow a printer to do this on? Sounds like confirming the availability of a printer might be worth doing before starting this?

Good point. I'm sure it won't be a problem. I would be surprised if nobody in the Austrian group had a printer. but @duffus is right: you should confirm this before anything else.

I'd also assume that the specs of the printer to be used would need to be reflected in the design rules?

Have you already discussed printer consumables? Assuming its not too high a cost we can probably cover this from the Akademy budget if necessary.

If not let the board know.

@duffus I sent that email with the hope that the University will have printers to borrow for us. I'm probably taking one printer with me, and I'm asking friends that live in Europe to see if they can take theirs printers to Akademy. At least one printer we will have. =D

Also the printers that will be used needs to have at least an open source firmware that AtCore/Atelier is compatible. I can get sponsor for material from companies from Brazil, so that part I can cover. But if not, the price of the material isn't expensive.

And yes, the technology used on 3DPrinting is the traditional FDM(Material Deposition), so that will impact the quality of the print depending of the kind of model.

Great, sounds like you had already got this mostly sorted

I will bring the 3d printer and I have material, no need for KDE e.V to spend money on this.
