Supporting the KDE End of Year 2017 Fundraiser
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

KDE Promo should help with the fundraising campaign, as we all share the same goal: to reach as many people and attract as many donations as possible.

Here's a list of tasks to discuss and/or complete:

  • decide on the start/finish dates for the campaign
  • develop content for the campaign website

Create the main message and build the rest of the content around it. We should highlight the biggest events/successes for the KDE Community from 2017 and motivate people to support the campaign.

  • write a Dot story announcing the fundraiser
  • continually spread links to the fundraiser on social media

A quick list of achievements and events from 2017 to help us create content:

if a may add to this:

The dates can be if we work hard in the next couple of weeks 04/12/2017 to 01/01/2018.
I talked with @apol about the layout of the website, so we are working on it.
We need some art for this campaign, anyone with influence on VDG to ask for it? One like we had for Randa?

Stuff we have to (re)write:

  • Title: What is this (or what we want visitors to do?) (or what visitors will get out of this?)
  • Subtitle: Expand on the title
  • Introduction text: What the user gets out of this.
  • Examples: of things we do thanks to the dontations
    • Randa meetings / sprints in general
    • Akademy
    • Sponsor developers
    • Set up booths in other events
    • Set and meet goals
    • Pay for hosting, hardware, etc.
    • Pay rent
    • Pay for merch we can use to raise more money
    • What else?

From my part, the backend of the website is done. The front end need's polishing. I already added some infos about stuff that we worked during 2017.
However, I'm not good to have ideas for a slogan... So anyone that is more creative than me can give us a hand.

My 2 cents: I feel like we could use the standard sentence "if everyone reading this donated X dollars, the fundraiser would be over in Y hours".
This is what at least Wikimedia and Mozilla do in their fundraisings.
Personally I've donated to Wikimedia more than once exactly the amount of money they had suggested. I find it a very effective way to attract the interest of the casual reader.
