Objective: Hold a meeting with council to brief new council members and co-ordinate activity.

Planning - RT will setup a doodle poll to choose a date

  1. Welcome and introductions
  2. The vision for Kubuntu ( I think Ovi did a lot of work on this before, perhaps we can build on this )

#The year ahead, what would we like to achieve
  3. How do we go about doing so
  4. Defining and assigning actions, and time lines
  5. Follow up, when do we confirmed again

Can we get 1. a post to the Council ML about this with a CC to the developers ml, and 2. a link to Ovi's Kubuntu Vision?

(1) Done, and (2) here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10M-hYkzHBLnPihbgk6J-u9QcYVW2y8U-jhnjo3rhq_Y/edit

Thanks, Rik! That vision was a great start, and I think we've come a long way since then. And I think this is the perfect time to take stock and lay new plans.

I would love to get more users spreading the word via social media once we tweet/toot/blog etc.

I've doodled.

I'll try again to get BBB working.

I'd like to add https://phabricator.kde.org/w/kubuntu/release-management/ - New paragraph at the top:

Like everything we do in Kubuntu, release management should be done by a team. I think we should create a team like Xubuntu have in Launchpad and get the Manifest updated so that it will stay correct. In addition, Xubuntu have some nice docs which explain the various functions in clear language. If we expand the team to include testers and promo people, which I think we should, "Release Manager" is just the point person who steps up for each cycle, and everyone else on the team pitches in when necessary.

So my action item would be creating the team on launchpad and finding out how to get the Manifest updated. I think creating a formal release team will help us in the next cycle especially as we begin to prepare for the LTS.

Meeting Minutes

Thanks to the following attendee's

Clivejo, Ovidiu, Rik, mparillo, Valorie, and Simon for their attendance at the meeting. We covered the following items, and those points that required further action have been assigned to Phabricator Work Cards.

What are the motivators for joining the community ?

Rik - Using and improving, feels like I have a sense of ownership.
and that I am sharing that with thousands of people. This is a different sense of value, feels like doing a job, but of course it is not.
Simon Q - Make sure that we have a friendly, ease to use , bug free linus distro that can be custmised by people. I really like Plasma. This helps me develop my skills.
Valorie - Contributing, Collaboration, Friendship.

What Communication Channels do we have, and how affective are they ?

Rik, Valorie - Preference for IRC, ML's are a must, Telegram, Social media is fragmented and requires attention

Ovidu :- Social media
Valorie :- Bug Reports on Facebook
Simon :- Look at IRC and Telegram, ML

  • ACTION - Review Social Media strategy and implementation

What would you like to see happen in the next 6 months ?

Rik - Less isolated( Collaboration with Lubuntu, shared tools resource, working with Neon ) - Increase profile on Social Media - More into Public Consciousness - Shared update notification system as a shared project between Lubuntu, Kubuntu and Budgie.
