promo plan for Akademy
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Akademy is one of our biggest events of the year. We need a rough plan for how we want to cover it. This should include coverage for our own community as well as for the outside.

We normally have dot stories for the sat and sun with at least the bof round ups on Mon, Tue and Thu inc wed daytrip

Before the event we will have call for sponsors, announcement of talks and registration, sponsor info, keynote interviews and potentially others if possible

duffus moved this task from Backlog to In Progress on the Akademy (Akademy 2017) board.

A few questions:

  • Akademy 2017 doesn't have a Community Wiki page yet. The main page under "Hot Right Now" links to Akademy 2016, and the Upcoming Events page has no mention of Akademy 2017 (and looks pretty outdated as it is). Should we create a page for it, or is it too early? Also, is updating this wiki information something that I can just do whenever I have time, or do I need special permission?

Thanks! :)

I think you can go ahead and create/edit.

Yes. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, Lydia! Here's a small update:

  • Added Akademy 2017 to Lanyrd, will update the page as we get more information about speakers
  • Waiting for confirmation email from Opensource.com about their event calendar
  • Promo/Events: Replaced a broken link to Camp KDE, now leads to a Techbase entry. Fixed some typos and phrasing on the page
  • Upcoming Events: Added new upcoming events, moved the old ones to the Historic Events page
  • Main Community Events page: Fixed all broken links

FWIW i just fixed https://www.kde.org/events/month.php that was failing to load at all

I seems to miss some of the content for "next events" though.

Lydia maybe you can add @skadinna to the event calendar so she can fix it?

Awesome, thank you so much @aacid!

I forgot to ask - should we make a Facebook Event for Akademy?

It might help with increasing its visibility, and it makes it easier for (potential) attendees to ask questions and track updates about the event. Instead of posting questions about Akademy on our main FB page or in the comments of Akademy-related posts, they can start discussions right on the Event page. I'm thinking, if our small Croatian conference can have a FB Event page, then something as big as Akademy should have one, too :). But of course, if most of you think it's unnecessary or an "overkill", I get it.

Will do in a sec.

We should have one. Please create one from the KDE page and add me as an admin as well. I'll start inviting people then.

OK, sure. I have to run some errands now ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ but in a few hours I'll complete the Akademy 2017 wiki page and the FB Event page. I hope that's not too much of a delay.

New mini-update:

  • FB event is now live here. Lydia, I've added you as a host/organizer so that you can manage the event - please let me know if this worked. Also, please note that the event cover image is just a temporary thing I put together so that it's not empty. Feel free to replace it with something more official. :)
  • Akademy 2017 now has a wiki page. Obviously, it's still under construction as a lot of info is missing. Anyone can edit this if they have any useful information, especially about the venue and Almeria.
  • ...and we're on the Opensource.com calendar! ๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ˜„ Currently the only event in July.
