When viewing a clip with transparency in the clip monitor, all transparency information is thrown away. Especially clips with smooth transparency gradients look rough or "distorted".
In contrast, the bin clip icons correctly show transparency, as the preview gets rendered with transparency.
Using a configuration or clip monitor options, users should be allowed to enable clip previews with correct transparency. Suitable backgrounds could be:
- black background,
- checkered background, as used in many image editing tools.
Technically, this might be achieved by compositing the currently selected bin clip onto either a black clip or a checkered clip before displaying the result in the clip monitor.
Please note that the clip monitor already supports a divided with/without effects view, so compositing onto a suitable background may be possible too.
