I have tried to start this on a previous ocassion but wasn't very successful, check it out: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83111
This makes it easier to work with other editors and vfx programs (blender, natron).

Shotcut now has an EDL export feature, based on some javascript. We could probably copy the feature.
If you are interested in EDL export in Kdenlive, please test Shotcut to see if its export feature works as expected and add comments here so we can decide if it is worth it.
I have done some tests exporting an EDL list from Shotcut into Blender, note that the EDL-import-plugin might not work perfectly, here are some things I have noticed:
-It doesn't work when there are transitions such as Fade.
-It doesn't import images (JPG) just videos. (Here I used .mov iles taken from Canon 5Dmkii and t4i).
-The number of tracks in the timeline in Shotcut get imported differently in Blender. For example I created 3 tracks in the timeline with various clips spread through them in Blender this gets imported as 2 tracks with most clips on one track and only one clip in the second.
Honestly I have to do some more tests but so far I am happy to be able to kind of see a light at the end of the tunnel. Probably there could also be a right way of doing it both in Shotcut and blender.
Which EDL, by the way? I did some (limited) research and the results were rather dicouraging to me. Everyone seems to interpret EDL differently. Next, does a particular import really needs a reel, which is limited to 5, 6, or so characters ... so we would need to export reels together with the cut list? Some programs seem to be more liberal, but I found many contradicting EDL examples even for the same tool. In principle, we could do a simple EDL export from a Kdenlive project even outside Kdenlive (probably even using XSLT), but only if the original EDL restrictions could be eased a lot...
Probably the CMX 3600 standard.
There is probably an MLT (or maybe Shotcut) module that already does this as JB said.

The people over at Flowblade are thinking of developing an EDL feature to integrate better with Natron. Maybe we could join forces and propose an MLT module?
Interesting thread on Flowblade's github...
