Description

At this point I'm not going to advocate for moving from 10 to 11 since people don't seem to like it. However the default fixed-width font is Hack 9. I don't see any reason for the default fixed width font to be smaller than the default general UI font. And to my eyes, 9 it just too small to be comfortable in Kate and Konsole--the kinds of apps that used fixed-width fonts that typically have very dense text display.

So I'd like to propose raising the default font size for fixed-width fonts from 9 to 10:

Kate, Hack 9:

Konsole, Hack 9:

Konsole: Hack 10:

With a non-HiDPI screen, 10 also looks a bit sharper than 9 to me.

If people agree, this would need to be done in the Fonts KCM, in Kate, and in Konsole.

What say ye?

Yes, please, to all of this. I'd gladly give my blessing for the bump to 11, for that matter, as well.

I think from a purely utilitarian outlook you must err on the side of readability, especially since there's a naturally high correlation between those who might gauge the defaults as too large and those who are most at ease finding those settings and altering them (the very young, in both cases).

P.S. For the record, I'm not even 40. I have no idea why that seems so geezer-ish to read/type...

Both Konsole and Kate, take the default font from the global fixed with font settings. Once you change the setting in the application, it no-longer follows the global setting. I have also noticed that the default font settings seem to be a bit distro specific.

That said I think the default fixed-width font should be configured globally like now, and not separately in the applications. Where the default global setting is specified,I have not checked.

I'm not against changing the default, but it should be done in the right place ;)

That's an argument I've repeatedly made, but it seems to generally fall on blind eyes ;)

I do agree with you all that we should follow the global font size.

And I also agree to have the default font size to be 10pt. it's much more common, and if people don't like it they can always change on settings.

Yeah, I agree that if Kate and Konsole read the global value to get their initial sizes, it should only be changed in the global setting.
