Right, @stefanocrocco maintains the WebEnginePart for konqueror, @rrosch worked on the sidebar, other people ported it away from deprecated API, and I review contributions.
So konqueror is still around.

I remember there being a feature request for this.

Maybe we should rethink it a bit to make it more intuitive @meven had some opinions about this in https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/merge_requests/80#note_74877.

And if we implement the feature request https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=374637 it would be IMO far more usable.

And in one reddit post I have added the idea of adding this feature to the "Web Browser" widget, because that has no search engine or sth. like that configured (https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/hjxgxd/after_trying_kde_for_a_week_i_found_out_that/fwpyjvo/?context=3)

Also neochat has implemented the web shortcuts support, which means that there is one more argument for having it in KIO :)
