Description

There were a lot of ideas at the Krita 2019 sprint about ways we can improve it. The different areas people wanted to change/improve were the following:

  1. call out message more showing new release information
  2. Potentially break apart artist interviews from other content
  3. Notification when people are using test builds...and how to submit bug reports and use test builds
  4. Learning section for discoverability
  5. Drawing competition integration. Show some image highlights carousels and links to artist's website/portfolio.

The other change requested is to add analytics tracking to all the links to krita.org. This way we can tell all the people coming to the site from the application.

Here is a potential idea for how we can do this. I think the community competition might be a little ways off. When it comes time to implement this, we could do the news section first on the left side and leave the community stuff as-is. Once we get the community competitions going we can start working more on the updated welcome screen integration with it.

Let me know if there are any issues or things that we need to include.

It's beginning to look cramped, but the idea looks good. Im against the "slideshow" concept unless the order for showing the selected artworks is randomized on every krita launch. having a rotating image on launch makes launching the program more fun (at least to me :),

I agree the slideshow should be randomized so as not to start arguements about who might have won. It should be viewed that all artists selected won 1st(fav) place for the month/release.

A example similar concept that is sometimes used is similar to SciTE about box. Each backer/contestant/etc gets a line in the credits, with an art link if they so choose. With SciTE the names are not randomized but the coloring on the foreground text is, which makes readability nicer on the eyes with a palette of cool colors. Krita's about/backer box is just plain backColor/foreColor with wraparound text(which makes reading much harder) telling where the breaks are.
Managing a concept like this might have its downsides too, such as online/offline, broken links, and/or typos, but it is nice to be able to see other artists works.

I think that recent documents preview must be have two display options, textual and with big preview images. The second option is suitable for touch screens.

On the right it’s better if to replace Community by News and do not show "slideshow", because without internet connection this is does not work.
For the artworks by Krita community there is T11402 task.
