protocol is dead in general:
<Elv13> Riddell: the wikipedia pages says Apple dropped it in OSX 10.2 in favor of Zeroconf/ahavi/Bonjour and UPnP/SSDP
<Elv13> that's ages ago

/opinion Seems like a pretty dead protocol to me. After some quick research and opening Wireshark, it seems to be gone from all "modern" services in favor of SSDP, a subset of UPnP (universal plug and play) that does the same thing. Avahi/Zeroconf/Bonjour is also a lot more common for service discovery. Of course the more discovery method the better, but at some point zombie protocols are probably not worth keeping.

This was pushed, seems I don't know how to do the commit to trigger the close.
