This works now -- which is quite a milestone, you put a lot of effort in this. I will push this into the repo, so it gets into Krita's history. Weirdly enough, though, someone else posted a very similar patch the same day, which implements two more toggles, and also adds the actions to the layerbox menu: https://phabricator.kde.org/D6127 -- so I will also push that patch so we end up with both your and his work into Krita.
